Days Gone has been released on April 26, reaching the top of the sales chart in multiple countries like Italy, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom.

Now, yet another country bows to the majesty of the Bend Studio-developed open-world action adventure game, and that country is Japan.

While it still is a new IP, that could be predictable since it’s a new title from Sony and a PlayStation 4 exclusive, which usually get amazing support at release.

Anyway, the numbers are somewhat surprising since the game has managed to sell more units at launch in Japan than a behemoth like God of War.

Last year’s game of the year, at least to many in the press, sold just 46,091 units in the first week, while Days Gone has managed to sell 114,319 copies in its first two days of availability, almost 3x that count.

Interestingly, Horizon: Zero Dawn has sold slightly better (116,997 copies), while Uncharted 4 and Spider-Man are way ahead with 124,000 and 132,000 units at launch respectively.

It’s worth noting that digital sales are out of the count, and that’s important since nowadays a publisher like EA has sold %49 of its titles that way in 2018 and early 2019. So, once digital sales are taken into account things could be very different.

As for the title, Days Gone has obtained a mixed reception among the press members due to the familiarity of its core loop and flaws like AI and lack of polish.

Anyway, that’s not stopped people from going to retailers and buy a copy, and that was predictable, too, since the post-apocalyptic setting and the zombie theme are very popular nowadays, and Sony well knows that.
