It’s been over  three years since the teaser trailer that announced the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game, yet after a long wait, the game is nearly here.

Due to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, and Stadia on September 4, Marvel fans will no doubt have had the date marked in their diary for weeks. Even more so since the recent Beta test gave them a taste of what to expect from the full title.

If you’ve yet to play the Beta, or just want to know a bit more about Marvel’s Avengers in general, I’d thoroughly recommend you give our impressions of the Beta a read. Luckily, you can do so here.

In the Marvel’s Avengers launch notes Square Enix has clarified that an internet connection will not be required in order to play the game, however, there is a caveat, a big one.

Should you wish to purchase the physical version of the game, you will need to connect to the internet in order to download the day one patch. You should probably sit down for this one.

The day one patch for Marvel’s Avengers comes in at a whopping 18GB, or thereabouts. Like with most things in life these days, COVID-19 is to blame. Square Enix addressed the patch, and had this to say:

Players with the digital version will be unaffected, as the patch is included in the initial download.
