Keeping up with his roll of big announcements after being cast in Marvel’s Thunderbolts, David Harbour joins the PlayStation movie Gran Turismo, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions film will be directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9) and written by Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard).
Based on the true story of a player of the video game franchise, it will follow a teenage gamer who, through playing the games, won various Nissan competitions, which led to becoming a real race car driver. The teenager in the Gran Turismo movie will be mentored by David Harbour, who plays a retired racing driver.
Hall and the game’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi will executive produce. Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti will produce the film.
David Harbour cast in PlayStation Gran Turismo movie
David Harbour in the Gran Turismo adaption is only a part of the plan PlayStation has to bring its games to new formats. Earlier this year, the action-adventure series from Naughty Dog, Uncharted, was turned into a movie with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. HBO is adapting The Last of Us, which was also developed by Naughty Dog, which is aiming for a 2023 release. John Wick director Chad Stahelski is set to direct Ghost of Tsushima, and Twisted Metal will get a TV series with Anthony Mackie starring.
The acting gigs keep stacking up for David Harbour as he signs up for Gran Turismo. After his Marvel debut in Black Widow, he signed up for Thunderbolts to reprise his role as the Red Guardian with Florence Pugh and other Marvel veterans, which will release on July 26, 2024. He will be returning for the final season of Stranger Things. Other upcoming projects for him will include Violent Night, We Have a Ghost, The Trashers, and My Dentist’s Murder Trial.
