The 2019 Hellboy reboot was a dud, both critically and at the box office. The film is currently sitting at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 58% audience score. With a production budget of $50 million, the film only made $21.9 million domestically at the box office during its run (via Box Office Mojo). So, it’s probably safe to say that a sequel is unlikely to happen.
While speaking with ComicBook, Hellboy star David Harbour discussed the possibility of a sequel:
Harbour continued:
“There’s a lot of people who reach out to me who really loved it and really enjoyed the new take, and were just happy to see him back on the screen, but I know in the culture at large, I don’t think it was very well received.”
Back in May, Harbour talked about the film’s problems with Digital Spy and other members of the media:
For those who enjoyed David Harbour’s take on Hellboy or who are just fans of his work, you can see him in the highly-anticipated third season of Stranger Things, which is set to release on Netflix July 4th.
Although all signs point to this adaptation Hellboy not getting a sequel, the movie will be available on DVD and Blu-ray July 23rd and you can buy it digitally July 9th.
