Entering the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy as Drax made Dave Bautista an A-lister in Hollywood. The actor has gone off to do all sorts of movies, like Blade Runner 2049, Dune, and Glass Onion. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the actor’s final time as the Marvel character, and he is ready to say goodbye in a new interview with GQ.

It is not a secret that Dave Bautista was not a fan of making his MCU character comedic due to the tragic backstory given to Drax. Still, the actor would not be where he is in his career without playing the tragic yet hilarious Guardian. Looking at the Guardians trilogy, the Holiday Special from last year, and the two Avengers movies, he is “grateful” but feels “relief” to make his exit.

Dave Bautista gives his goodbye to the MCU and Drax, looks to the future

Although he has worked on more serious work and will continue with M. Night Shyamalan’s next horror film, Knock at the Cabin, the actor still wants to be a “good f—ing actor” who is respected and not be the next Dwayne Johnson. From working with directors like Rian Johnson and Denis Villeneuve, he is making progress on his goal for “more dramatic” projects.

When it comes to playing Drax, Dave Bautista has been open about his age being a factor. On top of not wanting to be in his 50s playing a shirtless character, the hours of makeup is brutal on anyone for a major franchise. He goes into a sauna to sweat off the makeup. He is not the only one, as Zoe Saldaña has felt how hours of makeup wear down one’s energy while being grateful for a role that boosted her career.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5.
