Dark Souls 3 has a lot of different types of Souls. There’s the normal, every day Souls that drop for regular enemies. Then there are the ones you pick up, the Souls that drop randomly and allow you to add them as required. Finally there are the Boss Souls. These can be used like others to give you a quick boost of Souls, but the real purpose of them is transposition. However, this entire mechanic is hidden away within the game. So, here is our guide for how to use the transposing kiln for Soul transposition in Dark Souls 3.
First up, where do you get the transposing kiln in Dark Souls 3? That’s easy. Early on, in the Undead Settlement level, you’ll likely come across a giant tree that is being worshiped by various undead. This is the Curse-Rotted Greatwood, an optional boss that is through the sewer area, after the Dilapidated Bridge Bonfire. You need to find this boss and defeat him to gain the transposing kiln. If you’re having trouble beating him, here is our guide on how to defeat the Curse-Rotted Greatwood in Dark Souls 3.
Once you’ve beaten him, you’ll have the transposing kiln in your inventory. But how do you actually use it? Short answer: you don’t. You actually need to give it to someone else, who will then use it for you. Head back to the Firelink Shrine. This is where you will find Ludleth…though he too is very well hidden.
If you look around the Firelink Shrine you will easily see a set of five thrones. On the second from the left there is a very small man sitting there. This is Ludleth, and you need to head up the nearby ramp and walk to the front of the throne to speak with him. Give him the transposing kiln and he will assist you for the rest of the game with Souls transposition. Just speak to him and you will be able to view the items that your collected Souls can create, though you’ll also need a decent number of regular Souls to craft most of them.
