Charlie Cox first appeared as Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante, in 2015 with the premiere of Netflix’s Daredevil. The series appeared alongside other Marvel shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, with the entire collection of shows leading up to The Defenders, an Avengers-like crossover where the heroes from the respective series are forced to work together to defeat the shadowy organization known only as the Hand. Daredevil concluded after three seasons in 2018, but the show’s high ratings led to Matt Murdock being brought into the larger MCU. Eventually, they convinced Marvel to enter development for a sequel series, Daredevil: Born Again, on Disney+ in 2021.
