The upcoming Marvel movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has added another impressive talent. In an interview with Inverse, composer Danny Elfman revealed he has begun work on the sequel. Elfman didn’t give anything away about the movie, of course. And his work on the score is in the early stages.
Elfman has been working in Hollywood for decades. He has partnered with Tim Burton multiple times, churning out classic film scores for 1989’s Batman, 1999’s Sleepy Hollow, and 2003’s Big Fish, just to name a few. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will also see him reunite with Sam Raimi. The two worked together on 2002’s Spider-Man and the 2004 sequel. Creative differences led to Elfman not scoring the heavily criticized third entry. But the two patched things up and worked together again for 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful.
This won’t be the first time Elfman has scored an MCU movie as he also composed the soundtrack for 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Other projects he’s worked on include 1993’s A Nightmare Before Christmas, the Men In Black franchise, and The Simpsons, for which he created the iconic theme music.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is shaping up to be one of the more important Marvel films coming up. The title alone points towards the inclusion of a multiverse going forward. And with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff joining, it is expected to tie in with the Disney+ series Wandavision. In addition to Benedict Cumberbatch, returning from the first film are Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong. Xochitl Gomez is taking on the new role of America Chavez, a character who can open portals to other dimensions.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releases on March 25, 2022.
