Adding to yesterdays Tony Hawk Pro Skater announcement, another blast from the past returns in the rhythmic Dance Dance Revolution V(DDRV).
Konami took to Twitter today to announce DDRV for PC browsers. The title is in alpha and has this limited free download window. Also, there is no word yet when it will hit the next phase
This entry sees a different control method from the standard dance pad or optional controller. Players will use a keyboards arrow keys to control hit them with the corresponding spot. Konami issued a statement for those trying to play with mats saying it “is not guaranteed to work perfectly, but if you are interested, try it.”
Dance Dance Revolution V is free and the demo includes 15 songs that players can take on at various difficulties. To access the title you have to create a Konami account and play the game at 573.jp.
The game’s description says DDRV will work through Firefox, Chrome, and Edge, but not through Internet Explorer. Why? because if you’re still using Explorer you might be too old to dance anyway. You’ll also need 2BG of memory, decent internet and to unlock your inner weeb first.
Dance Dance Globally
DDR debuted in the arcades during September of 1998 before moving on to become a global phenomenon. The game hit multiple consoles, selling millions of copies.
Several other series spawned as a result of DDR such as Just Dance and Dance Central. There was a wave of inspired rhythm games in the 2000s from DDR’s runaway success.
The franchise slowed down on consoles once the previous ps3/360 generation came out, before typically primarily sticking to arcade only releases. This latest entry appears to be Konami testing the waters to possibly breathe new life in the series. We’ll keep you posted as this game updates in the coming months.
