Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye in Black Panther will reprise her role for the upcoming sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and a Disney+ Original Spinoff series.

Recently, Florence Kasumba, who plays Ayo in the Black Panther movie, reprised her role in Disney+’s The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Kasumba came back as a soldier of the Dora Milaje, to punish Baron Zemo after he was broken out of prison by Bucky Barnes.

Danai Gurira, who is well known for her character Michonne on The Walking Dead, entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Okoye in Black Panther. She became a fan-favorite character with her badass fighting skills and her loyalty towards the King of Wakanda and came back in Avengers: Infinity War as well as Avengers: Endgame. It is unclear what the Black Panther sequel will entail after the demise of Chadwick Boseman who played the beloved King T’Challa.

The untitled Black Panther TV series will be set in the kingdom of Wakanda, and although the plot is under wraps, the story could take a lot of different roots with the rich stories that Wakanda has in the comic series. Ryan Coogler, who is the director of the Black Panther sequel, will also be at the helm of the untitled series.

Bob Iger, the Chairman and former CEO of Disney had this to say about Ryan Coogler’s project:

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
