The Pokémon Company has released new information about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, set to release on November 18, 2022. The news showcases a brand new Pokémon, Cyclizar, a host of new items and moves related to the game’s “Terastallizing” gimmick, and a new trailer showcasing the news was revealed during the 2022 Pokémon World Championships.

Cyclizar, New Items, and Terastallized Pokémon

The newest trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet revealed new information about the game’s battle system and how it will shake up the competitive Pokémon scene.

The trailer started by revealing a brand new Pokémon, Cyclizar, known as the Mount Pokémon. It is Dragon/Normal type, is 1.6 meters (5.2 feet) tall, weighs  63 kilograms (138.8 lbs), and has the ability Shed Skin, which grants it the chance to heal its own status conditions at the end of each turn.

Cyclizar also has a new move, Shed Tail, in which it creates a substitute before immediately swapping places with a party Pokémon in waiting.

In addition to the reveal of Cyclizar, the trailer gave us a glimpse of some of the new features of the game’s signature “Terastallizing” phenomenon, which can change the type of a Pokémon based on their “Tera Type” and cause them to glow like gemstones.

A Pokémon’s Tera Type is now outwardly shown until the Terastalize, and certain Pokémon can also use new moves after changing. For instance, Tyranitar goes from Rock/Dark to Ghost-type after Terastalizzing. Terastallized Pokémon also gain access to another new move, Tera Blast, which changes its type to match the user’s new type. It is unknown what the Tera Type of Cyclizar, the newest Pokémon, will be at this time.

The final bit of information pertains to the new items and the competitive format Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will adhere to upon release.

The new items include the Mirror Herb, which is a one-time use item that will allow the holder to mirror an opponent’s stat boosts; the Covert Cloak, which conceals the holder and protects them from the additional effects of moves; and the Loaded Dice, which makes multistrike moves more likely to hit multiple times.

Players will be able to compete in competitive play using the Battle Stadium feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, where they’ll be able to use the internet to battle Trainers from all over the world!

In Ranked Battles, players will have the chance to raise their rank to the highest level by defeating Trainers from all over the world. They can also compete in low-stakes Casual Battles or online competitions with various rules and formats. It should be noted that a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is needed to access the Battle Stadium.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022, and is available for pre-order now with a host of bonuses.
