One of the things people have fallen in love with when it comes to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is Gwent, it’s in-game digital card game which even ended up having its standalone title. However, CD Projekt RED isn’t doing anything similar for Cyberpunk 2077.
As shared by the Polish studio, the team isn’t working on any card game for Cyberpunk 2077, despite having commissioned one, but physical, called Afterlife, and despite having a card game already set in the universe of Cyberpunk in Netrunner.
“Sorry all but we are not doing Netrunner in any way – I’m a fan of the game myself, but we decided to create something new and stand-alone,” said CDPR’s Rafal Jacki, as reported by VG247. “No plans to have a card game in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game.”
I’m not a big card game fan, but this news saddens me a bit. Massive games such as PSX era Final Fantasy and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have card games, and their inclusion almost felt like a guarantee of those titles being great, in terms of quantity and even quality, at times.
Cyberpunk 2077 is not going to disappoint fans, or at least won’t be disappointing for the lack of a card game in it. Also, I feel that this decision was due not to stray players away from the standalone Gwent game, so I understand where it’s coming from.
The main title is releasing on April 16, 2020, so you know the date you should mark on your calendar.
