Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer will fit with the lore of the single-player campaign. This is what CD Projekt Red level designer Max Pears, said in an interview with Video Games Chronicles.

Pears said that the multiplayer mode is spending a lot of time in the research and development phase. That’s to be sure that it fits with the lore of the world.

Then Pears added that Cyberpunk 2077‘ s multiplayer needs to fit with how CD Projekt designs and delivers games.

Pears also said that the Cyberpunk 2077‘ s team is hiring to get “the right people for the job.” Though, Pears added that the single-player is still CD Projekt Red’s main focus, at the moment.

“That’s why it was so important to go through the R&D process with it, to make sure that we’re not just throwing something in and that it feels like a CD Projekt Red multiplayer that has our beliefs and design philosophy.”

Multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2077 was Confirmed Back in September

After some rumors about the development of a multiplayer mode in the game,  CD Projekt confirmed its existence. CD Project Red also briefly detailed its plans for Cyberpunk 2077 in that announcement:

2/2 The plan for now is to deliver Cyberpunk 2077 in April, then follow up with DLCs (free!) and single player content, and — once we’re done — invite you for some multiplayer action.
