Cyberpunk 2077 has been the hottest name in upcoming video games for months now. The hype surrounding the title raged even harder after E3 2019 when it was announced Keanu Reeves has a major part in the story.
Unfortunately for CD Projekt Red, the news surrounding their new project has been a bit more negative. After the announcement sexes would not be a customization option, the dev team suffered some blowback.
An announcement in the last few days that Cyberpunk 2077 will be almost entirely first-person generated new anger. Some gamers wanted to be able to see the character they created in the game. Those same gamers are afraid the shift to first-person will make the customization options pointless. However, CD Projekt Red lead developer Marcin Momot took to Twitter on Monday to allay fears and explain the decision.
1/2 Achieving full immersion in an FPP game is extremely important and the decision made by the team to go 100% first person in @CyberpunkGame is something that will benefit it greatly from gameplay and story-telling perspectives.

He went on to detail just when Cyberpunk 2077 players will get a glimpse of their characters.
2/2 That said, players will still be able to see their characters in the inventory screen, during driving sequences, in mirrors and, very occasionally, in some of the cut-scenes.
While the explanation likely won’t appease everyone, it does shed more light on what the developers were thinking. The development is interesting, if only because it’s a big move away from what they are known for. Momot claims they want to get “full immersion” in Cyberpunk 2077. The argument could be made players were plenty immersed in the action when playing The Witcher 3.
This futuristic tale is certainly going in the complete opposite direction of the earlier game. It appears Momot and his team are intentionally setting their new title as far apart from the fantasy-driven hit that put them on the map.
At the heart of the anger surrounding the change is the trailers released so far. Fans are wanting to know just how much the look of the game is set to change. We likely won’t know for sure until its release.
Cyberpunk 2077 is due to launch on April 16, 2020.
