Over the last few hours, many things have happened in the world of gaming thanks to the beginning of GDC 2019. One, in particular, was quite curious to read about: Cuphead releasing on Nintendo Switch, with a post-release Xbox Live support on the way.
As you might know, Cuphead is Studio MDHR’s intellectual property, but it was developed thanks to Microsoft’s funding.
So it’s just interesting to learn how it happened that the game was allowed to drop on other platforms outside of PC and Xbox One.
As shared by Easy Allies’ Daniel Bloodworth, that was apparently an idea of Microsoft, that’s evidently interested in bringing Xbox games and Live features on Switch by using the game as a sort of test.
“Oh yeah I was talking to one of the Cuphead devs yesterday, and he said that it was Microsoft actually approached them and asked if they’d like to make a Switch version,” Bloodworth said on Twitter.
We’ve already reported about Microsoft willing to bring more Xbox games to Nintendo Switch next year, so we’ll see how the work on Cuphead will enable that possibility very soon.
Also the work going into the Switch port will improve other versions of the game too. Expect shorter load times on Xbox with an update after the Switch version goes live.
