During its Nindies Showcase for GDC 2019, Nintendo made a surprising announcement. Cuphead is making its way to the Nintendo Switch next month. You can check out the full announcement trailer from Studio MDHR down below:
After the trailer, Nintendo thanked “our friends at Microsoft” and the game’s developers for making this happen. An Xbox Wire post states that Xbox Live Support will be made available for the Switch version of Cuphead “in the coming months”. Cuphead will officially release for the Nintendo Switch April 18th.
Last month, there were reports that Microsoft would be adding Xbox Live support to Android and iOS devices, as well as the Nintendo Switch at GDC 2019. Microsoft announced support for the mobile devices a few days ago but not for the Switch. It’ll be interesting to see if Microsoft will make an announcement about adding XBL support to the Switch in the near future.
Either way, what’s important is Cuphead’s inclusion on the Nintendo platform. Cuphead has been one of the most well-regarded indie titles to be released over the past few years and it has been praised as one of Microsoft’s best exclusives. Well, now I guess it’s a “former” exclusive but still. The game will also have some DLC released this year titled “Delicious Last Course”, which will include new bosses to battle and a new playable character, Ms. Chalice.
We here at The Nerd Stash gave Cuphead a perfect rating, stating “Though it is intensely difficult, it’s also an incredibly rewarding experience”. That part about the game being “intensely difficult” is especially true. Let’s just hope that we don’t see anyone accidentally destroying their Nintendo Switch out of frustration this April.
