Hard as nails platformer Cuphead is coming to a TV screen near you courtesy of a Netflix series called The Cuphead Show! (confirmed by developer Studio MDHR, Netflix, and Kings Features).

This time around, Studio MDHR will not be doing the animating as confirmed by IGN through a telephone interview with co-creator Chad Moldenhauer. Moldenhauer also confirmed that the art wouldn’t be drawn on paper, but through digital means. An internal Netflix animation studio will handle the majority of the work. Executive producers for the show include Dave Wasson (Mickey Mouse Shorts), Cosmo Segurson (Rocko’s Modern Life) in addition to Chad and Jared Moldenhauer from Studio MDHR.

Coming to you in full color and cine-sound, it’s…The Cuphead Show! Witness the wondrous Inkwell Isles as you’ve never seen them before in an original series inspired by classic animation styles of the 1930s. Now in production by the talented team at @Netflix Animation! pic.twitter.com/4xA59eVLra

For now, The Cuphead Show!  is in the early stages, so there isn’t a release date. The show is being described as a “character-driven comedy” that’ll follow Cuphead and Mugman’s adventure across the Inkwell Isles. Chad Moldenhauer made sure to explain that the show will appeal to a broader audience since it is written to be safe for kids and funny for adults.

What started as an Xbox exclusive, Cuphead is a side-scrolling bullet-hell platformer. The game features the titular Cuphead along with his brother Mugman. The game features a 1930’s inspired art style that’s been hand drawn and animated. The game recently made its way to the Nintendo Switch with a blessing from Microsoft.

This isn’t the only Cuphead news that’s come out recently, as the Delicious Last Course DLC was recently delayed until 2020. The team said they wanted to focus on making the best game they could and make sure the team’s health didn’t take a hit.

In our original review for Cuphead, we thought the game featured an excellent art style and soundtrack, difficult levels, and a “one more try” experience on its way to earning a five out of five. You can read the original review here.
