While exploring in Cube World, you may come across a Petrified Village. Many of the villagers here will be frozen and grey, and interacting with them will tell you only that they have been petrified. You won’t be able to use any of the shops, as all the shopkeepers are frozen as well. There should still be some NPCs wandering around, however, and some of these may still give you quests.
What To Do At A Petrified Village
If you are fortunate, you will find a character who can tell you what happened. An evil witch petrified the village, and the only way to lift the curse is to kill her. The witch can be just about anywhere in the region, so unless you get the quest directly from an NPC, it will take a lot of searching to find her.
You should also keep in mind the witch will be a very tough fight. You will want to gear up a lot first, so fully explore the zone, find items and craft new armor and weapons, and only then should you try to save the petrified village.
Some towns will have been petrified by demons, who are using a magical portal, and you will need to destroy the portal to free the town. Whatever reason the NPC gives for the town being petrified, it is safe to assume that it is a high-level quest, and you will need to be pretty strong to fix the problem for the villagers.
Be sure to explore everywhere on the map, and use all the items you find like the Sky Whistle, the Boat, and everything else to get the best possible gear that you can. Otherwise, it will be a challenging encounter.
