Crytek has been in a state of turmoil lately, so many have been wondering about the future of the Ryse series. After releasing originally as an Xbox One exclusive, Ryse: Son of Rome is now coming to PC courtesy of Deep Silver, but will not be making it’s way to PlayStation 4. However, president and CEO of Crytek, Cevat Yerli, has explained how they aren’t exactly happy with the Xbox One exclusive sales and how a possible sequel could expand platforms.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Yerli was asked about a rumor that part of financial bind that Crytek has been in came as a result of not wanting to give Microsoft ownership of the Ryse IP and he responded with the following:
“No. We have a good relationship with Microsoft. We are constantly looking at what we can do together. We are not 100 percent happy with Xbox One sales right now. So we want to wait till the current gen and next gen catches up. For Ryse 2, we aren’t saying it’s cancelled. It’s our IP. It just has to wait for the right timing. And the right timing means higher installed base across next-gen.
This was followed by the question on if it had to be a Microsoft exclusive, which he dismissed by saying “No. We can do whatever we want with it with whoever we want.” He goes on further to explain that basically focus and attention is what is keeping the sequel from being made right now, as gamers are coming to him wanting a sequel all the time.
