PlayStation 3 fans have been left out in the cold when it comes to the upcoming release of Crysis 2. The Xbox 360 has had a demo, then a re-release of the demo, PC users have had their chance with the game currently, and PS3 owners have gotten nothing but promises about a forthcoming opportunity to go hands on with the game. At GDC, Crytek unveiled the PS3 version of the game to journalists, and the gang over at IGN were “underwhelmed” to say the least.
The verdict? Not so great, unfortunately. The performance of the PS3 version is pretty underwhelming. The framerate is frequently low and choppy. There are jagged lines everywhere, and shadows are especially messy. There’s a muddiness to the graphics that’s hard to stomach in the wake of the PS3’s other flagship showpieces, and worse, the variable framerate really hurts controller response.
PS3 owners will get the chance to judge for themselves in just a couple of weeks when Crysis 2 releases on the PlayStation Network for download.
