The next DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield has finally be released; players can now go to the frozen area of the Crown Tundra! We hope you don’t mind the cold; the entire place is a frosty filled confine. Of course, this is a brand new adventure for Pokémon, so get Pokémon ready to look people in the eyes for fights. If you’re unsure how to start the Crown Tundra, we’ve got you covered!

Once you get to Freezingston, an NPC is standing next to a farm; speak to him, and he’ll offer you a deal. He’s willing to trade Carrot Seeds for Dynite Ore x8. This has to be fulfilled to progress through the quest called The Legend of the King of Bountiful Harvests as Carrots Seeds are a key item.

Carrot Seeds

To use the Carrot Seeds in the Crown Tundra, you have one of two options, and this choice determines what Legendary Pokémon-type you’ll receive at the end of this main story mission. As you progress through The Legend of the King of Bountiful Harvests, about mid-way through, you will learn of the Legendary Pokémon Calyrex and that he once had a trusty steed that has run away.

By planting these Carrot Seeds, you can use the produce to lure out the Legendary Pokémon steed Glastrier or Spectier, although where you plant them is the main thing to take into account here, as there are two locations:

  • Snowslide Slope: These will turn into Iceroot Carrots - Calyrex’s steed will become Glastrier. Old Cemetery: These will turn into Shaderoot Carrots. - Calyrex’s steed will become Spectier.

The Calyrex will always be a psychic type no matter what, yet the secondary type of this Pokémon can change based on the choice you make for the steed. If you decide to plant the Carrot Seeds in the Snowslide Slope, then Calyrex will become part Ice-type; therefore, you’ll receive the Psychic and Ice-type Pokémon.

If you sow the seeds at the Old Cemetery instead, the second type of Calyrex will be Ghost-type, so after the quest is completed, you’ll obtain the Psychic and Ghost-type Pokémon.

That is all the Carrot Seeds do in The Crown Tundra; however, if you are after the complete Pokédex, it might be best for you to pick one type of carrot and your friend another!
