Critical Role features a bunch of nerdy voice actors sitting around and playing Dungeons and Dragons. But when they’re not rolling dice and leaping from cliffs or needing things to live, the cast and crew play other tabletop roleplaying games as well. The latest and greatest stream from the studio saw a few members enter the lawless town of Deadwood, South Dakota in the four-part series Undeadwood.

If you haven’t checked it out, it’s definitely worth sitting down and watching. The game takes place in the town of Deadwood, based on the popular HBO show and the recently released movie earlier this year. The series transfers Matthew Mercer from the dungeon master seat and plants him firmly in a player chair; a spot he shines brightly in. Alongside the gunslinger, who is rather familiar with a sidearm as Overwatch’s McCree, is Marisha Ray, Khary Payton (The Walking Dead), Anjali Bhimani (Uncharted: The Lost Legacy), Travis Willingham, and Ivan Van Norman as the bartender.

Taking the role of game master or in this case game marshal is Brian W. Foster. While he may be known for his hosting skills on Talks Machina, his storytelling skills are incredible.

Undeadwood also features its own unique and original soundtrack. It’s one of the finest scores I’ve had the pleasure of hearing and one that fits right at home in any western TTRPG. Heck, you can find a use for it in just about any game.

Jason Charles Miller wrote and produced the 14 track ensemble and played acoustic guitar, electric guitar, percussion and piano. While Adam Hall provided all the dobro and banjo work and Aubrey Richmond played the violin. All of the music was mixed and mastered by Stewart Cararas for your listening pleasure. Miller’s work is incredible and emotional and drives the story forward with each note.

The soundtrack is available to download online wherever you get your music. For fans who watched the first campaign of Critical Role, Miller was featured in a few episodes as the half-orc rogue Garthok.

It’s also listed as Undeadwood (Chapter 1) so it isn’t the last we’ll get to hear new music from the show.
