Not even the creators of Talks Machina expected the show to do so well. Perhaps a weekly, one-hour talk show about a game of Dungeons and Dragons does seem very niche. Every Tuesday on Twitch, host Brian W. Foster and two guests from Critical Role chat about the previous episode’s adventures. Fans’ questions are answered, and prizes are given for best fanart of the week and best cosplay of the week. But now the show has hit its three year anniversary, and fans are sharing their favorite moments and love for Talks Machina.

With the hashtag #happybirthdaytalksmachina, Brian W. Foster encouraged fans to Tweet about their favorite memories. They responded with gifts, lists, and shout-outs to Foster’s dog, Henry, who is a recent addition to the show.

With fun antics, a relaxed atmosphere, and jokes to the crew behind the cameras, Talks Machina is a wonderful addition to Critical Role. While the Dungeons and Dragons show can often be intense and emotional, the following talk show allows fans to get answers to their questions and a peek behind character decisions. There can certainly be no better fit for the host than Brian W. Foster. His witty personality, unexpected humor, thoughtful inquiries, and professionalism (though he attempts to hide it well) are the heart and soul of the show.

Talks Machina has undergone a few changes throughout the three years. The set has improved, and fan gifts are now displayed along bookshelves. The crew has a more active role, particularly Dani Carr. Carr is the Production Coordinator for Critical Role and a Segment Producer for Talks Machina. She also leads the recent segment Critical Recap before each episode. Carr is so beloved by fans that she was recently given her own “Dani Cam” and engages actively in the shows.
