Critical Role has announced its first live art show in the greater Los Angeles area. This weekly Dungeons and Dragons live stream has soared in popularity since its debut in 2015. Now it is hosting a gallery to showcase fanart from its episodes.
The cast of Critical Role has always supported the art movement by its fans. Each week before the episode a slideshow of new art is streamed. Two art books have been released that feature various pieces from fans. And now those pieces will be displayed at the Nucleus Art Gallery in Alhambra, CA.
Voice actor Liam O’Brien has been in charge of condensing the pieces to the fifty they will feature. He has stated that he had to pull his favorites from thousands of artworks, and it was extremely difficult to do so. O’Brien is known as the “art dad” of the show, curating the pieces and finding new ways to show them off to the world.
The opening reception will be Friday, January 18th, 2019 from 7pm-11pm. There will be soda, beer, and wine for gallery visitors to enjoy. Its free to all ages but an RSVP is required for the opening reception. The gallery itself will be open Saturday, January 19th and Sunday, January 20th from 12pm-8pm.
The art showcased will have pieces from Vox Machina, Tal’Dorei, the Mighty Nein, and Wildemount. The gallery is titled “The Art of Exandria“. This an exciting new announcement from Critical Role, finishing off a year full of firsts as the cast moved into a new studio, took full creative ownership of their show, opened their own merchandise store, and debuted new content. They also made a trip to Broadway to play D&D live.
As the show grows, so does the art. It will be exciting to see the new ways in which the cast chooses to display the pieces lovingly drawn for them.
