There’s a new leader when it comes to the most amount of money raised for a Kickstarter and their name is Critical Role. If you rolled a natural one on your perception check, you may have missed the cast and crew launching the campaign to fund an animated series surrounding their Dungeons and Dragons game. Their goal; $750,000 in 45 days. They got that and more in under one hour. Now, they’ve become the top most-funded TV or film project ever on Kickstarter.

On March 4th, the cast launched a Kickstarter to animate their live-streamed Dungeons and Dragons show Critical Role. “The Legend of Vox Machina” will feature their characters from their first campaign all at level 7. In under four days, they raised more money more quickly than the previously held record by the reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3000. As of this writing, at 9:20 p.m. CST, 20 minutes into the 54th episode of Critical Role’s second season, the campaign is sitting at $6.2 million with more than 45,970 backers.
The “Critter” community, the fan base surrounding and supporting the cast and show, surpassed each original stretch goal on the Kickstarter as fast as a monk with the haste spell. So the cast extended more goals and those are already being met.

Four 22-minute long episodes will be released featuring a new story of Vox Machina set before the events of the streamed show. The latest goal to have been broken will lead to two more episodes surrounding a popular story arc from their Dungeons and Dragons game including the married couple named Lord and Lady Briarwood.
Future stretch goals include four more episodes of the story wrapping up the Briarwood arc. A special one-shot D&D game including guests from their campaign and a game run by player Ashley Johnson. The next goal is unlocked after they hit $7.5 million.
Critical Role is streamed every Thursday night on their own Twitch channel.
