He was a PlayStation icon in the 90s, and three generations later, he is back on top. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy enters at number 1 of the United Kingdom charts with bigger numbers than other big exclusives like Horizon: Zero Dawn or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Overall it would be the second-best launch of the year, only surpassed by Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, which was released on PS4 and Xbox One.

Activision’s remake of the three original Crash Bandicoot games, developed by Naughty Dog back in the day, grants the series its first number 1 entry in the UK, which also happened to the Wipeout series a few weeks ago. It has also propelled the series to be the 24th best-selling franchise of all time in the country. In our review we described the game as “a fantastic remake of some of the best platformers of all time.”

Other new releases are Codemasters’ Micro Machines: World Series at number 2, and Elite Dangerous at number 7, which are also franchises that date back many generations ago. Down in the top 40 we find The Golf Club 2 entering at number 27, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered at number 32. Valkyria Revolution, the spin off of the strategy series Valkyria Chronicles, debuts at a low 34, following a similar cold reception in Japan.
