DC Comics is teasing an appearance of the Court of Owls in its upcoming Batman/Spawn crossover. A new trailer for the crossover, which hits shelves December 13, shows off glimpses of what awaits in the pages of the issue. It also flashes to the masks worn by the mysterious group of villains, hinting at their involvement.

Batman, Spawn, and the Court of Owls, Oh My!

Of course, plot details are being kept quiet for the crossover event. However, DC is giving fans just enough to get them excited. Per CBR, it is revealed that Spawn becomes a weapon for the Court of Owls. He is used in their plans to destroy Batman once and for all. Of course, this leads to one of the greatest crossovers in DC history.

An official synopsis for the issue reads: “Two dark heroes, cursed by tragedy, find their paths crossing again…but not by choice! What sinister foe is at work, pitting the Dark Knight against the Hellspawn? From the shadows of Gotham City to New York City, this epic event is the blockbuster you’ve been waiting almost two decades for!”

Tell Me More!

The issue is written by Todd McFarlane and features art from Greg Capullo. Speaking on the Spawn and Batman crossover, McFarlane shared his excitement at the prospect of putting these two characters together. Not only does he get to reunite with Capullo, but he gets to “play with one of the greatest comic characters ever.” Not to mention he gets to return to his own creation, Spawn. He hopes to accomplish two things with this book. The first is to create a story that is fun to read, both visually and story-wise. Second, he hopes this is a reason for people to continue to collect superhero comic books.

Meanwhile, Capullo shared in an interview a little more about the Court of Owls’ presence in the book. He shares that there is so much potential to use them, alongside Spawn and Batman, for an interesting story. After all, this is a group of villains who have been around longer than Batman. Plus, they have been working right under his nose.

Batman/Spawn is out on December 13.
