Sonic The Hedgehog just dropped in theatres last month, and the Corona pandemic has forced the blue speedster in to an early video release.

The Hedgehog has broken records, even outgrossing Detective Pikachu from its theatrical run alone. Now, the digital release for the videogame character’s movie is March 31st, almost two months before it’s available physically on Blu-Ray and DVD.

For years, fans have joked that getting a good Sonic project would be a signal for the end of the world. Whoever made that deal for their soul needs to get that back because this isn’t funny anymore.

Your Home Is The Theatre

Hearing a  flick is getting a straight-to-video release can be seen as a red flag. However, this climate has major production companies changing their tactics and releasing all their titles this way. The Hunt and Onward are among other titles having a home release while in theatres. The upcoming Wonder Woman 84 is rumored to have a digital drop as well.

COVID-19 has postponed major film releases, closed theatres, and sped the release of other movies such as Bloodshot. The Vin Diesel led film Bloodshot released last week to the box office, seeing a historic low for ticket sales due to the virus.

Some media such as games aren’t as effected since digital releases have become a regular occurrence. Yet, the release dates/availability of the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X has been put into question as Coronavirus could affect production.

The situation around the world is everchanging as a vaccine is worked on, fluctuating dates will be the norm until things get back to normal. We’ll keep you posted on changes for all of your favorite media as updates come.
