Core is a free-to-play and program that allows users to create their own video game. From open-world MMOs and multiplayer battle royals, if you have an idea for a game you can make it in Core. It’s also a great program for Dungeons and Dragons dungeon masters to design their own dungeons. While still in the early stages of development, Core released just a few months ago. Core was built by Manticore Games with industry professionals who worked at Blizzard, EA, Respawn, Roblox, Crystal Dynamics, Zynga, and more. In their words, Core is a ‘digital playground and community designed to unleash imagination and explore new play experiences.’

Fans can join in and build their version of a Dungeons and Dragons dungeon for the Design-a-Dungeon contest.

Players can choose between four categories to build their dungeon.

  • Dungeons, Caves, and Catacombs: Beneath the surface of the world lie ancient tombs, sewers of great cities, subterranean monster lairs, unexplored caverns, and labyrinths riddled with traps and treasure.
  • The Wilderness: Between dungeons and safe havens are forests, deserts, mountains, seas, and other natural areas waiting to be explored.
  • Strongholds and Towers: These structures, whether intact or in ruin, are often the sanctuaries of the greatest heroes and villains.
  • Elemental Planes: There are many dimensions in the cosmos where great powers of earth, fire, water, or air dominate all.
  • Entries in the contest will be judged on aesthetic appeal, narrative storytelling, and most importantly, interactivity. Entries must be games, not just scenes to explore.

All of the games, worlds, and dungeons created will be featured during a PAX Online panel on September 15th with creators in the Dungeons and Dragons world. The panel will be led by Acquisition Incorporated’s Jerry Holkins and will also include Deborah Ann Woll, Xavier Woods, Reggie Watts, and Sam Riegel, as they share their favorite D&D experiences, using the Core game platform. Manticore Games will also be donating $100 to Extra Life.

Join us on Sept 15 at 12:30pm PT at #PAXOnline as @XavierWoodsPhD @DeborahAnnWoll @samriegel @reggiewatts and @TychoBrahe share their favorite #DnD experiences, recreated using Core. They’ll also reveal the winners of our Design-a-Dungeon contest. ?

Winners of the contest will see their creations Core’s “hub world” of Corehaven. Players can then visit each one of the different worlds through portals found in a magical shrine.
