The studio behind Alan Wake and Quantum Break have put a date on their first multiplatform title in years. Remedy told Eurogamer that their newest game, Control, will be hitting PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on August 27th, 2019.
The announcement comes after a release date was leaked on the Microsoft Store earlier this week. Remedy decided to get ahead of it by confirming the release date for their highly anticipated upcoming title. Control was originally shown off at E3 2018 during PlayStation’s press conference with a short teaser. This rather quick turnaround from announcement to release is rather impressive. Control looks to mix many of the aspects that have made past Remedy games great. It is a third-person shooter that focuses on putting the main character in supernatural environments. Through the use of telekinesis, the main character Jesse Faden can fly around the world and tear reality apart. It seems to have a very unique gimmick to set itself apart from a rather crowded genre. It looks like it’s going to be a major psychedelic trip.
Control marks Remedy’s first multiplatform game since the original Max Payne and it’s follow up. They have been in partnership with Microsoft for Alan Wake and Quantum Break so it’s a surprise to see them branching out to other platforms. The Alan Wake series was a massive success when they launched on the Xbox 360, but Quantum Break struggled at release. Quantum Break attempted to mix television with games, having live-action cutscenes shown intermittently throughout the game. It was a fresh idea but didn’t exactly capture an audience. Unfortunately, the PC version of Control will only be available on the Epic Games Store and the Windows Store at launch (It will be available for PS4 and Xbox One as well).
