Marvel has announced a five-issue miniseries entitled Contagion. The story includes Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Thing, and Moon Knight in New York. As a mysterious threat spreads throughout the city, Marvel’s street-level heroes face a new enemy.

Contagion: The Infected

The revealed image shows many Marvel heroes have succumbed to the new threat. Among those infected are Captain America, Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk, Jubilee, and Doctor Strange. With such heavy hitters under the thrall of the enemy, few heroes are left to continue the fight. The remaining defenders of New York embark on a quest to defeat their mysterious new enemy.

The miniseries comes from the mind of Ed Brisson, writer of X-Force. In addition, a plethora of artists is joining him to bring Contagion to life. Adam Gorham, Roge Antonio, Mack Chater, Damian Couciero, and Stephen Segovia combine their talents for the event.

Editor Jake Thomas expressed his excitement during the reveal. “It’s a different kind of threat than our heroes are usually up against and watching all their usual defenses crumble is going to be crazy exciting, and more than a little scary!” When Brisson was approached by Thomas, the latter pitched the event as a superhero horror event. “Obviously, Jake knows that I’m a huge street-level guy”, stated Brisson. “But he also knows that I’m a horror junkie. He and I have talked for hours about horror films, so I think he knew it was an easy sell for me.”

Contagion will release once a week throughout the month of October. Early information released shows that the miniseries will carry a Parental Advisory warning, probably due to the horror aspect. Each issue will be 32 pages long, with covers by Juan Jose Ryp and variant covers by Ryan Browne, all for $3.99 per issue.
