The Battlefield series has long been a favorite of PC gamers because of DICE’s unwavering progression for the franchise. They’ve not let the long life-cycle of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 deter them from making advancements in their games, and PC players have long gotten the best of it.
With the next-generation looming, and DICE able to get the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game to near parity in almost every aspect, the developer is claiming that previous Battlefield console games may have been dumbed down a little too much.
In a recent interview with MMGN, Battlefield 4 Creative Director Lars Gustavsson explains how DICE may have underestimated console gamers in the past.
“When we did Modern Combat on PS2 and Xbox, it was our first console experience,” he said. “Then we did Bad Company 1. In some areas we were dumbing it down too much, and we underestimated console gamers.”
“We’ve come to realise that it’s [the console market] definitely that ‘hardcore’ audience that’s in line with the PC crowd,” Gustavsson explained. ”Obviously it changes how the game is designed and played, but working on PC has allowed us to evolve and change Frostbite.”
It looks like these hardcore console gamers are going to get their next-generation version of Battlefield 4 in November. The game is expected to launch with the PlayStation 4 on November 15th, and with the Xbox One whenever Microsoft decides to reveal the official date for the console.
