Known in Japan as Makai Toushi Sa·Ga, the SaGa franchise the SaGa franchise launched in North America under the Final Fantasy banner through the title of Final Fantasy Legend 30 years ago. Riding on the popularity of the Final Fantasy brand, Final Fantasy Legend sold very well, all things considered, and went on to see two sequels before Square Enix marketed SaGa on its own merits. Now, the three Final Fantasy Legend titles are available in one game thanks to a new release from Square Enix called COLLECTION of SaGa FINAL FANTASY LEGEND available today on the Nintendo Switch for $19.99.

What you’re getting with the title is a faithful recreation of the original titles as well as several cosmetic and quality-of-life improvements. These include an increase in character speed, screen magnification, and a retro display to make the experience feel even more authentic. It even allows you to detach the Joycons and rotate the screen to make it feel like you’re playing the game on a Game Boy. Toss in some additional key art and some new music and you have something that feels very similar to the Final Fantasy Anthology and Chronicles titles on the original PlayStation.

The collection also includes eight different in-game wallpapers, the ability to play with either English or Japanese text, and a new commemorative song made especially for this collection called Across the “Sa・Ga” composed by Kenji Ito.

The original trilogy of Final Fantasy Legend games were universally praised both by critics and fans alike when it was first released. It looks to renew that feeling of nostalgia for when Square Enix brought the beloved RPG franchise to the Game Boy on North American shores. When you pick this game back up through this collection, hopefully, you are able to enjoy it just as much as they did when they first picked it up back in 1990.
