In what is some rather timely news considering we’ve just passed the Halloween period, it has been confirmed that classic horror author Clive Barker has signed on to executive produce HBO’s upcoming Hellraiser series.

Clive Barker’s 1986 novel “The Hellbound Heart” was our first introduction to his beloved horror world, with the cult Hellraiser movie heading to theatres just a year later. A new TV reboot has been on the cards for some time now, and earlier this year, HBO revealed that they were the network set to bring the world of Pinhead and his Cenobites to our screens once more.

The news was confirmed by Deadline, who also revealed that Barker’s specific role will be to executive produce. The author shared his enthusiasm to bring to life his characters once more:

The Hellraiser TV series brings David Gordon Green (Halloween [2018], Pineapple Express)on board to direct the initial episodes. Joining him is showrunner Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and writer Michael Dougherty (Trick r’ Treat). As it is still early days in development, no cast roles have been announced.

The HBO series is poised to take the story back to its roots and maintain the rich mythology. It will not have any connection to the upcoming movie that David S. Goyer is writing. Of course, there have been 10 movies already, only a couple of them actually releasing in theatres. The most recent movie to premiere was Hellraiser: Judgement, which was only released last year as a straight-to-video release.
