If you’re one of the many gamers with a growing backlog of games you just haven’t touched, Valve is trying to help with the Steam Spring Cleaning Event. From now until May 28, open Steam and you’ll be invited to participate in the Steam Spring Cleaning Event, which will give personalized recommendations on what games from your backlog you should play next.
If you play enough of the recommended games before 10 a.m. PDT, you’ll unlock a Badge to use on your Steam profile.
During the event, Steam offers game recommendations from seven different categories. Each category lists three games to choose from. Play a game from that category, and its respective room on the Steam Spring Cleaning Event page will light up, letting you know you’ve successfully completed it. Once you light up six of the seven rooms you’ll unlock the Spring Cleaning Event 2020 Badge.
Steam Spring Cleaning Event categories
The categories the game recommendations fall under encouraging players to try a variety of games from their backlogs, both new and old. The first category makes use of Steam’s Play Next machine learning feature, which can be accessed year-round from the Steam library page. The second category selects titles randomly from your library. Category three offers three titles “you used to play, back when you were into this kind of thing.”
The fourth category takes it old school, letting you choose between some of the very first games you owned on Steam. Category five presents games your Steam friends have recommended. Category six chooses games in your library that can make use of Steam’s Remote Play Together feature, so you can play remotely with friends who don’t necessarily own the game. Finally, the last category offers up some of the newer games you’ve added to your Steam library.
If you’re looking to add games to your Steam library, you may be happy to hear that Sea of Thieves is coming to the platform on June 3, and there are a number of games available for free for a limited time this weekend.
