Announced during Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase, Chucklefish’s Eastward is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year.
Developed by Shanghai developer Pixpil, the rail-riding Eastward delivers a unique story for the Switch:
Eastward follows two characters, John and Sam, a miner and a mysterious young girl with a frying pan and kinetic powers. From solving puzzles to taking on terrifying bosses, John and Sam travel the ravaged lands on a rickety train. Is that not enough? “Create deliciously authentic Eastwardian cuisine using (mostly) fresh, organic ingredients from toxic forests, infested mines and abandoned malls. These delicacies will grant health bonuses, power boosts and secret boons.”
Combine John and Sam’s skills to solve dungeon puzzles, take down unusual enemies, and survive the deadly miasma. Can you uncover the truth behind Sam’s mystic powers and bring back harmony to Eastward’s ravaged lands?”
Chucklefish’s Eastward is set to release on Nintendo Switch and PC on September 16, 2021. Preorders are open now for both versions at a discounted price of $22.49. As of this writing, it doesn’t look like a physical release has been planned.
Chucklefish is well known for developing gaming favorites like Stardew Valley and Risk of Rain. They also developed Starbound and Wargroove. The trailer seen above definitely has some Stardew Valley vibes, so mark your calendars for the upcoming release!
