The singer-songwriter was born in Lancashire, England on July 12, 1943. She was raised in a musical family and started studying music when she was 11. The singer-songwriter was part of the groups Sounds of Blue and Chicken Shack prior to being a Mac member. Her Chicken Shack with this group earned her Best Female Vocalist award in 1969 from the U.K. music magazine Melody Maker. Chicken Shack and Fleetwood Mac crossed paths (with Peter Green) and McVie went on to play piano as a session musician for the group. She went on to marry Mac bassist John McVie in 1968. The singer-songwriter made her first album Future Games as an official Fleetwood Mac member back in 1971. Her work with the group made her a legend. Some of the hits by McVie with the group include “Everywhere”, “Little Lies”, “You Make Loving Fun,” and “Say You Love Me.”

She released two albums with Chicken Shack, 14 with Fleetwood Mac, and three solo albums. The music icon was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Fleetwood Mac in 1998. One of her fellow Mac members Stevie Nicks shared a tribute to her friend following the news that she is dead at 79.
