The upcoming sci-fi feature The Tomorrow War has received a release date. According to Variety, the movie has been set for a Christmas Day 2020 release. So, you’ve probably never heard of this before, right? Well, you may have heard of it by the film’s original title “Ghost Draft.”
The Tomorrow War is a perfect vehicle for star Chris Pratt. Having come to mainstream attention with Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, the genre is a snug fit for the Hollywood star. However, there is the possibility that this movie will follow suit to Pratt’s massively underwhelming Passengers. But, it’s important to have faith!
What is The Tomorrow War?
The above referenced Variety article has this to say about the plot:
So, it kind of seems like a time-traveling-esque story with some meta ideas in it. The description is very little to go off of so this is just one reading. However, the idea of fixing the mistakes of the past for the benefit of the future is interesting. It’s just not clear how this is going to happen in The Tomorrow War.
The Faces Behind The Film
Starring alongside Pratt in The Tomorrow War is Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, J.K. Simmons, and Mary Lynn Rajskub. So, there isn’t anything to worry about when regarding the caliber of the cast.
The film is being directed by Chris McKay of Lego Batman fame and is written by Zach Dean. McKay seems like a strange choice with most of his directing credits being on comedies like Robot Chicken.

Also a little concerning is the fact that David Ellison’s Skydance Media is funding the project. It’s concerning because the studio doesn’t have a persistent level of quality. On the one hand, they have Mission Impossible and the most recent Star Trek movies under their belts. On the other hand, they financed Terminator: Dark Fate and Gemini Man. However, it is too early to dismiss The Tomorrow War as a dud.
