Netflix is gearing up to release the Chris Hemsworth movie Extraction 2 in 2023. The sequel to the 2020 action flick will also see the return of director Sam Hargrave, who made his debut with the first film. Plot details for the sequel are under wraps.

The film will continue the story based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks. The film saw the Marvel actor play former Australian special forces operator turned mercenary, Tyler Rake. He goes on a mission to save a crime lord’s son who had been kidnapped. On that adventure, he was joined by  Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, and David Harbour. No other cast member was announced to join the follow-up.

It seemed that Tyler Rake had died at the end of the film, but with an Extraction 2 teaser, Chris Hemsworth was revealed to be still alive and well for another action-packed film.

Extraction 2 with Chris Hemsworth aims for 2023 release

Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo produced the film, with Joe co-writing the first film. In an interview with Collider, he gave some ideas of how Extraction 2 with Chris Hemsworth will differ from its predecessor. Its “color schematic,” setting, “pace,” and “tone” will deliver something different.

“It’s its own movie in that regard. It has a different color schematic. It’s set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, a different tone than the first one. And that, to us, is an interesting way to approach serializing a story, is that it’s more surprising and unexpected, and you’re not going to get the exact same movie that you got the last time out.”

The Russos have liked working with Marvel actors since they spent time making four movies for the juggernaut studio. They had 21 Bridges with the late Chadwick Boseman, Cherry with Tom Holland, The Gray Man with Chris Evans, and Extraction with the Thor actor.

It has been a big year for the leading actor. On top of Extraction 2, Chris Hemsworth will be in Furiosa, the Mad Max prequel with Anya-Taylor Joy that is currently filming in his home country of Australia. He is also attached to playing Hulk Hogan in an untitled biopic. For this year, he has come out in Spiderhead and Thor: Love and Thunder.

You can watch the first Extraction on Netflix.
