It has been a while since the last time we saw the original Cap on the scene, and he admitted this week that Chris Evans misses playing Captain America. After the events of Infinity War, Chris Evans hung up his red, white, and blue shield and has been doing many other movie roles since…however, Evans has admitted to missing playing Marvel’s Captain America. It has been three years since Evans hasn’t played Steve Rogers in The Avengers franchise. Steve Rogers acted as the leader of this group of superheroes. After The Avengers: Infinity War, which Joe and Anthony Russo directed, Steve Rogers left to go back in time to be with Peggy, the love of his life. In Infinity War, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow also departed from the franchise…which was a hard thing to see for many fans. However, Steve Rogers didn’t die as Nat and Tony did…but his returning to the MCU is basically impossible, especially after handing over the Captain America legacy to Sam Wilson, who is now the title holder in the franchise.

Although he has been very supportive of Anthony Mackie’s new role, Chris Evans misses playing Captain America. He mentions this during an interview with People Magazine after the announcement of being their Sexiest Man Alive for 2022. He proceeded to open up about working for Marvel Studios after being retired from the role for three years.

Could Chris Evans Return To The Franchise?

Since Steve Rogers left to be with Peggy, there hasn’t been an opening for him to come back into the MCU as Cap. However, since he didn’t die, he could come back into the MCU pretty easily, not that we have the Multiverse. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve goes back in time to return all six Infinity stones, which they used to take down Thanos…while on this journey, he finds Peggy and stays in the 40s with her. Honestly, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier could have been a moment in time for them to use Steve Rogers again. Still, instead, it focused on Sam Wilson as the new Captain America and Bucky Barnes…being his sidekick, in other words.

There aren’t many ways that the Marvel Studios franchises could see Steve Rogers’ Captain America could return unless maybe a different variant of him or a different series or movie that takes place with him before he died. The MCU is very much trying to build a new team and series after the events of the Infinity Saga, so it is unlikely, and maybe even best, that Steve Roger doesn’t return yet…but who knows…maybe we will get something like No Way Home in the future for Cap. However, it is now known that Chris Evans misses playing Captain America in the Marvel universe, and hopefully, he will be able to live like him one more time again soon.
