What Did Chelsea Handler Reveal About Her Experience With Taking Ozempic?

In an appearance on Call Her Daddy, the 47-year-old comedian was candid in a discussion with host Alex Cooper. The actress revealed that she was unknowingly being prescribed Ozempic, intended to treat Type 2 diabetes. According to Handler, her doctor just prescribed it to anybody. The TV host did not even realize that she was on the drug.

Chelsea Handler was just told it was for those who wanted to lose weight. However, the drug is not meant for people who want to lose weight. Dr. Ania Jastreboff, M.D., PhD., an obesity medicine physician scientist at Yale University, made a revelation to People. Ozempic, or its counterpart Wegovy for people with obesity, works in the brain and shifts the person’s fat mass set point. Not only that, the drug needs to be taken slowly at the beginning before the dosage increases.

According to People, after the Chelsea Lately host came back from a vacation, she injected herself with a dose of the injection. Handler went for lunch with a girlfriend and discovered that both she and the person were nauseous. The friend then revealed that she was on Ozempic. The producer did not think it could be the drug she took and pinned her inconvenience on jet lag.

What Is Ozempic?

Ozempic is an FDA-approved prescription medication. The drug is for people with type 2 diabetes. It is taken by injection in the thigh, stomach, or arm.

Ozempic is one of the brand names for semaglutide, which targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite. During the podcast session, the comedian admitted that once she learned that the drug was not meant for her, she stopped taking it.

Handler said it is too “irresponsible” for her to keep on taking the drug. Handler said she has given her friends the rest of the drug. The actress believes that taking Ozempic, for her, would “backfire, something bad is gonna happen.”
