Players will have the ability to customize their character in the new Pokémon Sword and Shield games.

September’s Nintendo Direct was a flurry of information and activity. Happy to show off one of their flagship titles, Nintendo brought back a much-loved feature for the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield games: Character customization.

Pokémon X and Y were the first games to offer full customization options. These options included hairstyles, eye colors, makeup, and outfits. That was the last time such customization was allowed in the games. It slowly came back, but never to the full extent. In the Alola Region, players could change their clothes, but it was pretty limited in selection overall. After playing X and Y, it felt like a step backward. That’s changing with Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Your #PokemonSwordShield adventure isn’t all about the battle skills, you’ve got to look the part too! In the Galar region you’ll be able to pick a wide variety of outfits. Plus, you can change your hairstyle or put on a little makeup. pic.twitter.com/SZMOVcWBTJ

Set in the Galar Region, players will have the option to change their clothes, hairstyles, eye colors, and even add some cosmetics. It sounds like what we had back in X and Y, but with some different features. As Nintendo stated in the live stream, it’s more than just tops and bottoms. Players can change smaller accessories, such as gloves, along with makeup and color options for the character’s eyes.

Pokémon Sword and Shield releases on Nov. 15 for the Nintendo Switch.
