Challenger’s Proving III is another step in the main questline for Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen. To receive the quest, visit the War Table located at the H.E.L.M. Once you have done that, the first step for the quest will be made available to you for completion.
The new Battleground introduced in Challenger’s Proving III quest is the most challenging and fun to date. While utilizing mechanics that we have learned from the previous iterations, it maintains the pacing and pressure that has made Battlegrounds such a joy to play this season.
Step 1 – Battleground Oracle
Once Saladin has briefed you, he will task you with finding and defeating a Psion (Ixel, The Far Reaching) located on Nessus. To find this specific Battleground open the Director and select Nessus; the icon can be found below Artifact’s Edge.
Mechanics for this activity are very reminiscent of the previous Battlegrounds until reaching the second room along the way to the final encounter. Once you arrive at the large open room, you will find three shielded Wyverns. These enemies are invulnerable to all forms of damage and can only be taken out with power cores dropped by unstable enemies found during the encounter. Once you have your hands on a power core, throw it at one of the Wyverns, and they will come crumbling down.
Continuing on from that encounter, you will find yourself face to face with Ixel, The Far Reaching. This encounter is slightly different but follows the same formula from the previous Battlegrounds from earlier weeks. The boss will have three immune phases requiring you to eliminate enemies to bring each phase to an end. Be careful, though; the boss will summon a devasting area of effect arc attack that can be fatal.
Step 2 – Bring the Hammer Down
Once you have defeated Ixel, The Far Reaching, remember to socket a medallion into the Hammer of Proving.
Step 3 – Back to the Battlegrounds
Now that you have socketed the medallion into the Hammer of Proving, access your director, make your way to the Vanguard Operations section, and select the Battlegrounds activity playlist. Complete the activity and smash the Tribute Chest at the end to complete this step.
Step 4 – Return to the H.E.L.M
Once you have completed the previous step, return to the H.E.L.M and listen to the conversation between Osiris and Crow. Once that has concluded, go to the War Table to complete the quest.
