Meanwhile, Power gets busy taking care of the zombies within the enemy’s hideout and Denji arrives on the floor where Katana Man is hiding. There, he first meets him as a human, who turns into his hybrid form after a little conversation. Then, the two devil hybrids jump out of the window and have an intense battle on top of the roofs of neighboring buildings. Eventually, they find themselves on top of a train, trying to understand each other’s perspective. But thanks to Denji’s openness to his thoughts, the conversation doesn’t last long.
They soon enter the interior of the train, risking the lives of all the passengers onboard. Here, Katana Man overpowers Chainsaw Man and cuts off both his arms while he is protecting the passengers. It seems like everything is about to end. Still, Denji rises up and starts fighting only with the help of the chainsaw on his head. But even that gets broken soon enough. This feels like the end for Chainsaw Man, but we learn that Denji ended up slashing Katana man in half with a chainsaw coming out from his leg. And with that, Denji ostensibly wins the Katana Man vs Chainsaw Man battle in the season finale.
After the Katana Man Fight
Being a hybrid, Katana Man survives and turns back into its human form. But Denji easily ties him down while he’s unconscious. Aki soon arrives at the scene and calls for backup. Then, keeping up the anime’s dark humor, the two take turns kicking Katana Man’s human form in the crotch. Though, since he is alive, the Chainsaw Man season 1 finale is probably not the last time we will be seeing Katana Man.
The after-credits scene in episode 12 of Chainsaw Man season 1 opens with Aki smoking and remembering Himeno, while Power and Denji are in deep sleep. At that moment, Denji is having a strange dream where he is standing next to a door with a bunch of pages stuck to it. But before he could open the door, Pochita’s voice warns him against opening it. Though, it seems that Pochita (aka the Chainsaw devil) is the one behind the door, as the voice seems to be coming from behind it.
MAJOR SPOILERS This section includes information for the upcoming season of Chainsaw Man while answering who was the girl we saw in the post-credit scene of the final episode. And the answer is Reze.
The girl we meet in the after credits of the Chainsaw Man season 1’s finale is none of than Reze (aka the Bomb devil hybrid). In the manga, she first acts as Denji’s new love interest but soon reveals her sinister plan to literally steal Chainsaw Man’s heart. From the looks of it, the anime is following in the same footsteps and the next season will open with a knock by Reze.
Expanding on her character, Reze is a hybrid form of the bomb devil, just like the Katana Man and the Chainsaw Man. In this form, a human can willingly access the powers of a contracted devil while retaining consciousness. She is an agent of the Soviet Union whose main purpose is to capture Pochita. In her devil form, Reze’s head resembles an atomic bomb, and as you might expect, her powers let her create explosions and even explode herself. Being a hybrid, the latter move is not fatal for her but the same can’t be said for her enemies.
If the creators don’t venture too far from the original source material, the next season of Chainsaw Man will begin with the Bomb Girl arc. It is the fifth arc of the first part of the manga and introduces us to the next major character in the CSM universe.
