With the Emmy nominations announced, it also released the list of those who died who would receive nominations. Among those is Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who received a posthumous Emmy nomination for his final role, Marvel’s What If…? animated series, where he reprised his role as T’Challa with a Star-Lord twist.
Besides the Emmy nomination for Chadwick Boseman since his death from colon cancer in 2020 at 43, he received a posthumous nomination at the Academy Awards for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The award ended up going to Anthony Hopkins for his performance in The Father.
Chadwick Boseman Receives Posthumous Emmy Nomination
The actor was diagnosed in 2016 with stage three colon cancer. That same year, his career skyrocketed by joining the MCU as T’Challa, or as his superhero name goes, Black Panther. He made his debut in Captain America: Civil War. Two years later, he led his standalone movie with Black Panther. He reprised his role for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and What If…? leading to Chadwick Boseman getting this Emmy nomination. The sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is moving forward as it hit theaters on November 11 with nobody replacing the actor in his role as T’Challa.
Outside of battling Killmonger, Thanos, and even other heroes, the actor found time to star in non-superhero movies. He led 21 Bridges from Infinity War, Endgame, and Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo. He had a small part in the Spike Lee film Da 5 Bloods. His last film was Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, where he starred with Viola Davis, Glynn Turman (Fargo), Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead), and Michael Potts (The First Lady).
While Chadwick Boseman got an Emmy nomination, other stars were given the same honor. Other nominees include comedian Norm Macdonald and Arrested Development and Archer star Jessica Walter, who is nominated for her role in Archer.
