Numerous celebrities are quitting or threatening to quit Twitter now that Elon Musk has taken over. It was announced in April that Musk was taking over the social media platform with a payment of $44 billion. Many celebrities voiced concern over the matter, notably when he said he planned to reactivate former president Donald Trump’s account. While Musk was planning to terminate the deal, he has now been the owner of Twitter for one day, and Hollywood is not happy. The Hollywood Reporter mentions several celebrities who have opted to quit Twitter, citing fear over the hate speech and false information that Musk will allow on the platform.
Which Celebrities Are Quitting Twitter?
This Is Us executive producer Ken Olin said in his exit tweet, “I’m out of here. No judgment. Let’s keep the faith. Let’s protect our democracy. Let’s try to be kinder. Let’s try to save the planet. Let’s try to be more generous. Let’s look to find peace in the world.”

Billions showrunner Brian Koppelman tweeted, “Y’all’s, for real, come find me over on Instagram and the tok. Gonna really try to take a breather from here for a minute or a month come deal close time.” Similarly, Bill & Ted star Alex Winter scrubbed his Twitter history, leaving behind a Linktree address.
Not every celebrity is opting out of Twitter due to Musk taking over. Director Rob Reiner tweeted, “For those who are fighting to preserve our Constitutional Democracy, now is not the time to leave Twitter. Now is the time to VOTE BLUE!”

Mia Farrow (Rosemary’s Baby) threatened to leave the platform back in April but deleted the tweet, and her account is still active, while Jameela Jamil (She-Hulk) left the platform in April but has since returned.
Why Are Celebrities Quitting Twitter Over Elon Musk?
As previously said, Musk announced he would restore Donald Trump’s Twitter account, which made many celebrities ready to quit the platform. To make matters worse, on Musk’s first day running Twitter, Kanye West’s Twitter account was reactivated after the rapper was suspended for his anti-semitic remarks. However, Reuters reports that Musk addressed this issue in a tweet of his own, writing, “Ye’s account was restored by Twitter before the acquisition. They did not consult with or inform me.”
