Update: CD Projekt have issued a statement saying that they do in fact have multiple teams working on multiple games, but they do not have three Cyberpunk games in development at the moment.
Original Story: In a conference call held today, CD Projekt Red’s Adam Kiciński revealed that the company is pleased with how pre-sales of Cyberpunk 2077 have been when compared to The Witcher 3. He also detailed that the company has three different teams currently working on three unique cyberpunk games.
“We’re working on three cyberpunk things – the main game and two more. These are three teams.” Kiciński said during the conference call, according to a report from Bankier. One of the teams is working on a dedicated, standalone multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077. The third team is already beginning work on the companies next significant game, which he said takes place in the cyberpunk universe.
Piotr Nielubowicz, CD Projekt Red’s vice president, said, “Our next big project will also be in the ‘cyberpunk’ universe, and we’re already working on it and treating it as a really big and innovative project for us.”
CD Projekt Red expects sales of Cyberpunk 2077 to be higher on consoles than on PC. According to Kiciński, because The Witcher series had a long history on PC, and more people bought The Witcher 3 for the platform when it released. He expects the large consumer base for consoles to play out differently this time out for Cyberpunk 2077. The Witcher 3 sold nearly 50% of their total first-year units on PC, while they expect Cyberpunk 2077 to sell about 30% of their total first-year units on the platform.
CD Projekt Red is bringing Cyberpunk 2077 to Gamescom in Cologne, although it will be the same demo shown at E3. They expect to bring a new demo to PAX West in Seattle later this year and is going to be available for the public.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases on April 16, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
