Cats are cool. Fishing is fun. And puzzle games are great. So the combination of the three should make for an entertaining experience. This is exactly what Captain Cat is hoping to create on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. It was released to the Nintendo eShop and Xbox Marketplace yesterday. The game can be yours for only $6.99. Not a bad price. It’s not really my kind of game but if you’ve run out of things to play or you really like this style of game, this may interest you:
If you got mobile game vibes watching that there’s a good reason. Captain Cat was originally released on Android and iOS several years ago. The developer is clearly looking to get in on the console audience and make a quick buck. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Captain Cat is a bad game, or not worth $6.99. But I know the idea of a mobile port instantly turns many console gamers away, which is a shame because there are some truly great mobile games out there.
The game does feature 50 levels and then an additional 25 extra stages. After that, there is an infinite mode. So for the price, there seems to be plenty of content. Could be a great time killer. I’m not a big fan of the art style myself but a cat in a sea captain’s hat is always great. And if you played the mobile version and enjoyed it, maybe this will be something that interests you. I’m just not sure there is enough here for most people, especially not when you can easily find a similar game on your phone for free. But playing on something like the Switch rather than a phone probably does feel substantially different. Besides, someone has to play it, we wouldn’t want Captain Cat to starve to death right?
