Mollie Fitzgerald, an actress billed as “Stark Girl” in the film Captain America: The First Avenger, has been charged with the stabbing death of her mother, Patricia “Tee” Fitzgerald. According to the Johnson County Sheriff Department in Olathe, Kansas, Fitzgerald was taken into custody on Tuesday for the murder which occurred on December 20th.

Fitzgerald may have only had a bit part in Captain America: The First Avenger, but it seems she had a working relationship with the film’s director, Joe Johnston, who also directed other classic movies like October Sky, Jumanji (1995), and Honey I Shrunk The Kids. Per IMDb, Mollie Fitzgerald is listed as Mr. Johnston’s assistant during Captain America. She also wrote, directed, and produced a film in 2014 called The Lawful Truth that starred Johnston.
Details of Patricia Fitzgerald’s murder are still unfolding. What we know so far is that police responded to an armed disturbance call at the victim’s home on December 20th, where they found her dead of an apparent stab wound. Mollie was “contacted on the scene” (the meaning of which is unclear), taken to a hospital and treated for minor wounds.
So far police have not released information describing why they believe Mollie Fitzgerald is the perpetrator.
Gary Hunziker, the victim’s brother, indicated that Tee recently moved back to Kansas recently after residing in Houston, Texas for several years. Regarding his sister’s murder, Hunziker said,
Mollie Fitzgerald is being held on a $500,000 bond. She is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Thursday.
As a child, Patricia was active in 4-H and was a dairy queen. Even after moving to Texas with her husband–who had a law firm in the state–she would regularly return home to her family’s dairy farm in Kahoka, Missouri.
