Capcom has managed to revive the franchise with Devil May Cry 5, but before that, a few a bit disappointing games from the franchise were released.
One in particular, DMC Devil May Cry, came from Ninja Theory and was not the best selling game in the series.
Also, it featured a quite different design for main character Dante, and one that long-running fans of the IP never got too attached to.
Anyway, this doesn’t look like is stopping Capcom from believing that Ninja Theory could have worked on a sequel to that title and, as revealed by the developer and publisher, it did ask them to build one more game.
“On the dev side we certainly wanted to and thought we would work with Ninja Theory again to create a sequel to DmC, but that unfortunately didn’t get off the ground,” said director Hideaki Itsuno.
On top of that, Capcom would still love a sequel to that game, but the idea is that DMC follow up would require Ninja Theory to take care of it directly.
Producer Matt Walker added in the fact that “we’d still love to see a sequel, but we think it absolutely has to be made by Ninja Theory–so much of the amazing style and substance in that game was only possible because they have such a knack for what’s cool.”
It’s hardly going to happen since NT is now owned by Microsoft and is working on original IP such as Hellblade, but you never know.
